Planning a Trip to Ukraine Next Month? Here's What You Need to Know

Thinking about seeing Ukraine next month? That’s a bold choice. That means traveling in Ukraine is totally different from typical holidays.

You should always start by looking up your government’s guidance about travelling to Ukraine. You will get information about whether it’s okay to travel.

Once you’re sure you want to travel, get the Air Alert app. Everyone in Ukraine uses it. You’ll get a warning if any missiles or drones could approach you.

If the app sounds its alarm, move indoors immediately. It’s best to hide in a metro station, underground car park or basement. If you can’t get to shelter fast, look for any spot with two layers of building walls. Make sure you’re at least two rooms away from the outside. A bathroom can also help. You’ll probably find blue or green tape around windows to help keep glass inside if something explodes nearby.

People are just doing their normal lives in cities like Kyiv. Many are trying to live as normally as possible. So you’ll often hear air alerts and have to follow curfews.

Make sure your travel coverage includes protection in a war zone. Most don’t. Don’t go near the front lines in the east or south.

Ukraine is a strong and beautiful country. If you visit now, be careful prepared and safe.
