Is Vladimir Putin Pro or Anti-Communism? Examining Russia's Leader and His Stance on Soviet Legacy

Let us see how Putin understands communism from a simple viewpoint.

When Putin was a child the Soviet Union was a communist nation. He was also employed by the KGB which was the main security agency for the country. That meant communism was important in his early days.

During 1991 the Soviet Union split up. This action went against Putin’s plans. It was called a big disaster since a strong nation was gone. He wanted to go back to the authority and discipline present in the Soviet Union.

Still the president wishes to avoid returning to the old communist rule. In fact he believes that Lenin as the first leader of the communists made decisions that were harmful to Russia. Even more Putin stands behind the Russian Orthodox Church after communism tried to get rid of it.

Currently Russia operates on capitalist principles. A person may own a business in order to make money. It is still the government that controls oil and gas. In addition Putin organizes some public programs just as they were done in past Soviet times.

As a result Putin does not back communism completely. He examines the history of Russia and chooses what he thinks is beneficial. The President mostly aims to ensure that Russia is respected and influential. He mixes old and new theories to help achieve his goal.
