How True Is Trump's Claim That 5,000 Young People Are Dying Weekly in Ukraine?

It is difficult to say how many people have died in the war in Ukraine. Both sides do not have clear numbers.

Donald Trump stated that 5,000 young people are dying every week. That number sounds very high. Someone on Quora said it is probably closer to 2,800 people a week being killed or wounded. They also added that since Russia is doing more attacks they are losing more people.

Most news reports and many experts believe that Trump’s number is too large. Even if we consider the highest guesses, the number of people dying each week is likely not more than 2,000.

It also seems Russia has lost more soldiers than Ukraine.

There is something to remember here. "Killed" means someone has died. “Casualties” refer to both the dead and the wounded. In most cases more people are injured than killed.

So even though 5,000 deaths a week sounds very scary, many who study the war say the real number is lower. Still, it's a big tragedy. Many families are losing sons and daughters and the pain is real.

The numbers may change, but this war is sad and hurting many on both sides.
